Choosing a Baby Photographer in Orange County can be overwhelming!  There are so many great photographers here, how do you know who to choose?  I will answer a few questions here and hopefully make the process easier!

GENERAL INFORMATION

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE PRE-CONSULTATION?

This is where your experience begins!   Together we will create a custom session just for you and your family!  This begins with an online questionnaire where we collect all kinds of information about you, your family and your expectations for the session. Then we will schedule an in person appointment at our studio where we will discuss clothing options, choose studio outfits and talk about the products that will fit best in your home. When your session day arrives, we have a plan so everything goes smoothly – which is LESS stress for you.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

THE most asked question that I get!!   Upon booking your session we will send you a link to our Client Lounge website which will have all the details for your upcoming session. We will also go over all of these details with you during your pre-consultation where you may try on and choose studio outfits for you session.  I also have a referral for a stylist to help style your entire family if you choose.

WHEN DO I GET TO SEE THE IMAGES?
You will get to see your images about 2-3 weeks after your session.  We will help you with make your final decisions on images and products that have been custom designed just for you. We can even show you what your images will look like right on your wall!  This is one of the best parts – so please feel free to bring as many people as you would like.  If family lives out of town, a gallery of your purchased images can be posted online for them to view following the ordering appointment.

CAN I BRING MY KIDS TO THE ORDERING APPOINTMENT?

Of course you can! Children are always welcome, BUT it’s up to you!  If you know you need time to concentrate on choosing your images and products then you might want to arrange childcare.  Or we can always schedule your appointment when your children are in school.

WHEN DO I RECEIVE MY ORDER?

Heirloom products take time, so please allow 4-6 weeks from your order date for completion of your order. Birth Announcements take only a few days after final approval and ordering.   Announcements are shipped direct to you so you can get them out in a timely manner.

WHAT IF I ONLY WANT A FEW DIGITAL IMAGES?

We are a full service, heirloom quality portrait studio.  If you want a few images only, we recommend that you book one of our Mini Sessions offered a few times a year these are shorter sessions and include digital images at a discounted rate.

DO YOU HAVE A REFERRAL PROGRAM?

Yes! Referrals are the heart of our business. If you love your images, please share with friends and family!   By sharing us with your friends you will receive a $50 credit to use for a future session!  These credits may be combined, but may not be used towards a mini session.

MATERNITY SESSIONS

When should I schedule my maternity session?

I like to schedule maternity sessions at 28-35 weeks. At this time, you can usually see the beautiful signs of life within Mamma’s belly and Mamma is not so far into her pregnancy that she has become uncomfortable.  Its best to book early to ensure we have availability.  We suggest you book during your second trimester.

Are husbands and children included?

Of course!  Photographing interactions between family members not only allows for variety in your maternity portraits, but adds another dimension of emotion in your photographs.

Are hair and makeup included?

No, however I have great hair and makeup artist that I work with and can schedule them for your session.  If you prefer to schedule yourself and discuss what you are looking for then I am more than happy to send their information.  Hair and Makeup fee is paid direct to the artist and varies depending on whose available.

What time do you schedule your sessions?

Outdoor photography sessions take place about 1 1/2 – 2 hours before sunset.  This allows us to take advantage of the best possible light for your portraits.  Studio sessions can be scheduled at virtually any time.

 

NEWBORN SESSIONS

When should I schedule my newborn session?

Denise prefers to photograph new ones when they are between 5 and 14 days old. During the first two weeks newborns sleep very soundly. They are also still able to curl up in those squishy cute poses you may have seen in my portfolio.

It is never too early to book a newborn session!   Most expecting moms book their Newborn Session at the same times their Maternity session.  If you are booking a Newborn Session only I suggest booking no later than 36 weeks to ensure availability.  To book your session I pencil in your due date and when baby arrives I give you a few available dates to choose from .

What time of day do newborn sessions usually take place?

Newborn sessions typically are scheduled to begin around 9:30 am.  Babies are typically quietest in the morning which helps the session run smoothly.  Sessions are 3-4 hours long allowing for nursing and soothing baby.

What should I wear and what should I bring to the newborn session?

FOR BABY: Dress the baby in something that is easy to take off, as the baby will be photographed in his/her birthday suit most of the time. No socks as it leaves a pressure mark around the babies ankles. Denise has a full supply of little hats, bonnets, wraps etc for baby. Do not feel the need to purchase or bring these items for the baby unless it adds a sentimental element to your images. Avoid items that are made with a shiny material. Also please avoid headbands with large flowers and bows as they tend to distract from the babies face and natural beauty. Please DO bring, diapers, wipes, babies pacifier and plenty of formula if you are bottle feeding.

PARENTS & SIBLINGS: Parents and siblings should be dressed in neutral pallets. (Browns, creams, grays and tans) Pastels work awesome too and add a soft color. There should be no buttons, collars or writing on tops. If Mom has a dress or skirt, bring it! Avoid patterns as the focus will be on the baby and not what you are wearing, but have fun playing with different textures. Lace, linen, knits etc. This can be an exhausting time in a budding families life, so, Mom’s, please don’t stress about what you will wear! I have plenty of wraps on hand to “dress” you in for your photos.

What to expect.

It is not uncommon for a newborn sessions to last 3-4 hours, allowing plenty of time for feedings and comforting. The studio space is kept warm and quiet, to ensure that the session will run smoothly. It is best if you can arrange for siblings to stay home unless they will participate in the shoot. Please let Denise know if you plan to have siblings participate in the session. She LOVES sibling images and she can arrange the day so the sibling can have images taken with baby early in the process, allowing them to be free to go home with a sitter after their part is complete. Nap-time in a toddlers OWN bed is a wonderful thing!:)
